Bears for Children

Bears for Children provides new, child-safe, cuddly teddy bears to comfort frightened children during crisis situations. Law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and other emergency agencies distribute the bears to children in need of comfort. In 2008-2009 more than 5,500 bears from Assistance League of Atlanta found their way into the arms of scared children through more than 35 agencies.

Links to Education

Links to Education provides scholarships to deserving college students pursuing post-secondary education at Georgia institutions of higher learning. In 2008-2009, Links to Education awarded $50,000 (bringing the total to $320,000) to students attending these six institutions of higher learning: Oglethorpe University, Wesleyan College, Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University, Georgia Perimeter College, Gwinnett Technical College, and Kennesaw University.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings provides support to more than 20,000 homeless adults and children as well as victims of rape and abuse. This program works through nine social agencies to provide essential household goods, clothing, school supplies, and personal care items to the homeless and abused.

Operation School BellĀ®

Operation School Bell provides new clothing, uniforms, shoe vouchers, and hygiene kits for elementary school children. During 2008-2009, Assistance League of Atlanta clothed more than 6,000 school children in 175 schools within metro Atlanta school systems.

Shepherd Center Patient Support

Shepherd Center Patient Support supplies new clothing (t-shirts, socks, bathing suits, and tear-away pants) appropriate for physical therapy to aid hundreds of patients in their recovery. We also deliver a bag of cookies, smiles, hugs, and a greeting card to patients celebrating birthdays whose families may be far away.

Wee Help

Wee Help assembles and delivers over 2,000 new layettes each year to Atlanta area hospitals for mothers in need. Each layette contains a gown, sleeper, diapers, blanket, bottle, pacifiers, socks, and a hand-knitted cap. Also included is a pamphlet in three languages with information about SIDS. Bereavement layette packages are also available.
